In 2019, Itochu-Shokuhin formed a business alliance with Technican, the manufacturer and distributor of the liquid rapid freezing machine Tomin. In 2020, the company launched the frozen food brand Tomin Ichiba, offering frozen seafood, meat, fruits, and alcoholic beverages sourced from across Japan. Utilizing the Tomin technology, which preserves food in a state nearly identical to fresh, Itochu-Shokuhin has been focusing on developing new markets.
With traditional fruit harvesting, produce is picked before fully ripening to ensure it reaches consumers at peak quality. However, fruits are most flavorful when ripened naturally on the tree. Tomin Fruits capture this peak ripeness and lock in the freshness using the Tomin freezing process. Thanks to its rapid freezing speed and the formation of ultra-fine ice crystals, Tomin preserves the fruit’s natural texture and flavor, resulting in frozen fruits with a pleasant, fresh-like mouthfeel.
In 2025, Itochu-Shokuhin expanded its Tomin Ichiba frozen fruit lineup by adding new items. Following existing offerings such as Shine Muscat, Sato Nishiki cherries, La France pears, and white peaches—all grown in Yamagata Prefecture—the brand introduced two new varieties: a Yamagata-grown mixed fruit assortment and Nagano Purple grapes from Nagano Prefecture.
