Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Nobuo Domae), which operates MUJI, will sequentially release four types of the “Imperfect Chocolate Series”—made by combining imperfect fruits and chocolate—as seasonal limited offerings starting from Friday, October 11, at MUJI stores and the online store.
Aiming to support the fundamentals of daily life to realize a “pleasant life and society,” Ryohin Keikaku provides products that enrich everyday living and releases seasonal snacks and beverages for a limited time. This time, aligning with the cooler temperatures of early autumn, we are launching chocolate confections that can be enjoyed in combination with fruits.
■ A Combination of Imperfectly Sized and Shaped Fruits and Chocolate Whose Taste Remains Unchanged**
The “Imperfect Chocolate Series” being released consists of four varieties: “Imperfect Pineapple Yogurt Chocolate” and “Imperfect Banana Chip Yogurt Chocolate,” which are pineapple and banana chips coated with yogurt-flavored chocolate; and “Imperfect Soaked Chocolate Apricot” and “Imperfect Soaked Yogurt Chocolate Strawberry,” which are freeze-dried apricots and strawberries infused with chocolate.
The fruits used are those whose taste remains unchanged even if their size and shape are irregular. We make effective use of parts like the core of pineapples that are hollowed out when making canned pineapple, as well as smaller cuts and pieces, ensuring nothing goes to waste. These products are crafted with a focus on taste rather than appearance, aiming to contribute to reducing food waste.
Among MUJI’s staple chocolate confectionery products, items combining yogurt chocolate and fruits (cranberries, raisins) have become long-selling popular products. The addition of pineapple and banana chips as seasonal limited offerings also features combinations where the tangy yogurt chocolate further enhances the sweetness and tartness of the fruits.
Furthermore, for the soaked chocolates, we have combined white chocolate with apricot and yogurt chocolate with strawberry. By infusing chocolate while leveraging the fruits’ inherent tartness, we have achieved a taste with a well-balanced harmony of sourness and sweetness.
