In a significant achievement, 7-Eleven’s “Freshly Fried Curry Bread,” sold at their in-store counters, set a new Guinness World Record as the “Best-Selling Freshly Fried Curry Bread Brand.” This record was certified on July 16, 2024, with a cumulative sales of 76,987,667 pieces from January to December 2023. This marks the first time a 7-Eleven product has received a Guinness World Record.
The “Freshly Fried Curry Bread” was initially launched in June 2021 at select stores in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and parts of the Tokai area. By December 2022, it expanded nationwide. The bread features a curry roux made from over 30 spices, blended and simmered in a factory, then delivered to stores across Japan. It’s freshly fried in-store, offering a crispy texture and freshly made taste. The product is particularly popular among men in their 40s, but it also sells well to women in the same age group and younger customers.
According to the company, there is a growing demand for “freshly made” items, such as “freshly brewed,” “freshly baked,” and “freshly fried.” In response, 7-Eleven offers experiences like the “Seven Cafe,” where each cup of coffee is brewed using a paper drip method, and the “Seven Cafe Smoothie,” providing customers with fresh and exciting flavors. Regarding future developments, MD Yoneda stated, “We aim to explore the deliciousness of freshly fried items, including fried bread. We are currently testing new products, and with the infrastructure now in place, we plan to roll out a variety of offerings. We expect to make an announcement within this fiscal year.”
