The dawn of a new era in food is here with the launch of innovative “Onigiri” by Nissin Foods, part of the “Frozen Perfect Meal DELI” series. Starting at 11 a.m. on the 18th, six new onigiri products will be available on the company’s group online store. The main target audience is working women in their late 20s to early 40s. These onigiri offer the perfect balance of taste and nutrition, ready in just a minute and a half in the microwave, making them ideal for busy breakfast times. Featuring generous fillings, the variety includes salmon, mentaiko, and bibimbap-style options.
The “Frozen Perfect Meal DELI” series, which launched in 2022, originally featured bento-style meals. Utilizing technology honed through the development of instant ramen, the series achieves a perfect balance of taste and 33 nutrients, including the three major nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. With 22 popular Japanese, Western, and Chinese menu items such as katsudon, curry rice, Bolognese, and dan dan noodles, the sales performance for fiscal 2023 grew approximately four times compared to the previous year.
Expectations are high for the new “onigiri” products. According to Mayumi Sato, Director of Direct Marketing at the Beyond Food Division, “The development period was one year. This is a confident creation that innovates the contents while preserving the deliciousness of traditional onigiri.” In a pre-launch survey, an impressive 98% of participants rated the onigiri as delicious.
The six varieties of onigiri include “Flaked Salmon and Shiso,” “Kishu Ume and Steamed Chicken,” “Tuna Mayo Flavor Gomoku Rice,” “Spicy Mentaiko and Takana,” “Chirimen Sansho and Edamame,” and “Bibimbap Style with Gochujang Flavor.” The rice used is mixed with fiber-rich glutinous barley and grains, and each onigiri is packed with plenty of fillings.
Each onigiri weighs 100g, similar to a typical onigiri, and is priced affordably at 190 yen (including tax) per piece.
